Chican@s is the term adopted by the growing group of children from Mexican immigrant families that come to the United States following the American dream. This label speaks to being two halves of different cultures, yet not being fully accepted by either culture despite growing to love and foster both cultures. This intersectionality has historically been used to divide and oppress our people instead of being celebrated and accepted by both anglo and latin communities. Chican@s are a strong, intelligent, and capable community as Gloria Azaldua once stated, “ni aguila ni serpiete but both”. We hope that the following renditions of La Loteria cards can stylistically showcase the strength, beauty, and impactfulness Chican@ culture has on American culture.
